As artists, we can often feel like we’ve plateaued on our progress because of lack of time, or resources. Not every artist has the time to go to art classes, and not every artist has the money to attend art-school and receive a proper critique.
That’s why I’ve created this blog! Introducing the…
The Redline Station is a blog that is dedicated to helping artists. If an artist is struggling with anatomy, or would like a critique on their art, they can submit the art using the SUBMIT YOUR ART button. Then, one of our moderator artists will pick up their piece and do a redline of it to help them better see the places that need fixing.
What’s a redline?
Good question!
A redline is when an artist will draw directly over a piece of art in order to show what the mistakes in anatomy are. By seeing the comparison of the art itself (at a lower opacity) and of the more accurate anatomical example, the artist can more quickly improve their drawing.
Our artists will take your submitted drawing and give you a redline. They will then post it to the blog alongside the original to help you compare the two and easily see what needs to be done. It’ll look somewhat like this!
Q: Can I submit anything?
A: Yes! Any type of art, human or animal is okay! The only thing that’s not okay is gore and pornography. The posts will need to be PG-13. (Kissing and suggestive scenes are okay, however.)
Q: Will you redline if the drawing is in my style?
A: Yes! Anime style, cartoony style drawings are also okay. The idea isn’t to fix the drawing to look more like ‘realism’, but to fix it to make it look more believable within the frame of style it’s already in.
Q: How many drawings can I submit for redlining?
A: For the time being, I’m the only one running the blog… In order to keep my sanity, I will accept only one submission per person and only keep submissions open for a limited time until I get more help. Which brings us to our next point…

In Hercules (1997) the Fates tell Hades all the planets will align but only show 6 planets aligning. These are the 5 planets plus Earth that the ancient Greeks were aware of and could see with the naked eye.
In Zootopia, while Officer Judy Hopps is ticketing cars around the city, she never crosses the street illegally. She always uses a crosswalk and looks both ways before crossing.
In monsters inc, sully’s chair has a hole in it to accommodate his tail.
In The Brave Little Toaster, all of the walls in the cottage are cleaned only as high as Blanky can reach.
In Cloudy with
a Chance of Meatballs, during the food storm the president’s of Mount
Rushmore get pied in the face but Abe gets hit in the back just like his
assassination.
In Cars the truck stop advertises “convertible waitresses” i.e., topless.
In Finding Nemo, Bruce the shark starts crying when Marlin starts talking about Nemo, saying “I never knew my father”. Male sharks mate with the female then leave, so baby sharks never actually meet their father.
The Magic Carpet from Aladdin makes an appearance in Moana.
In UP, there are craft supplies on the table by Ellie’s hospital bed when she gives the Adventure Book to Carl.
The hold up scene in the Incredibles is actually an homage to a similar scene from Die Hard with a Vengeance, which also starred Samuel L. Jackson.
In Toy Story 3 (2010) Buzz Lightyear’s batteries are exposed showing the Buy n Large brand, the same company responsible for making WALL·E.
In Ratatouille (2007) Anton Ego’s typewriter resembles a skull and his office a coffin.
In Monsters, Inc. (2001), there are multiple sizes of coffee cup for each of the different sized monsters.
In Toy Story 2 (1999), as the restorationist is going through his equipment, he opens a drawer filled with chess pieces. This is a reference to the Pixar short “Geri’s Game” where a similar looking man plays a game of chess against himself.
In Inside Out (2015) while going through Imagination Land a game box can be seen in the background with Nemo on it called Find Me.
In Cars, you can spot Sully and Mike in cars form!
At the end of Ratatouille (2007) Anton Ego is a little bit fatter. This is especially poignant since he states, “I don’t like food, I love it… if I don’t love it I don’t swallow.”
In Coco we can see The Incredibles poster.
Insuricare,
the company that offers “car life insurance” to the cars in Cars 2, is
the same company Bob Parr works for in The Incredibles.
In Inside Out (2015) two of the memory orbs on the shelves contain scenes from Up (2009). One features Carl & Ellie’s wedding, while the other shows their house.
In
Toy Story Woody is trapped in a crate which is stuck under a ‘Binford’
tool-box. Binford is the fictional tool company in the TV show Home
Improvement which starred Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear.
In
The Incredibles, in Bob Parr’s home office, there’s a photo from a
fishing trip where it appears he caught Bruce from Finding Nemo.
In
Cars 2 (2011) while in a pub in London there is a tapestry on the wall
that is the DunBroch family tapestry from Brave (2012), except they are
portrayed as cars.
In “Ratatouille” (2007), Linguini has to hide Remy before his second
day of work. He offers to hide him in his pants, revealing his briefs
covered in The Incredibles logo.
After the plane is blown up in The Incredible, Helen (Elastigirl) knows the plane debris is going to fall on them due to seeing the reflection in the water.

My European Studies professor decided a few weeks ago to take a Friday and instead of following the syllabus, he spent the entire hour and a half comparing Hitler’s actions from a European perspective to that of what Trump is doing in America. He never repeated a single point, and even used video and photos like this to show the comparison.
To make things better, he had us do an in class assignment for participation points. He first played a clip on youtube of one of Hilter’s speeches, subtitled and 3 minutes long. He then played a clip of one of Trump’s rallies. Our assignment? Copy down every single sentence that matched in translation down on a sheet of paper or a word document that wasn’t repeated. The person with the closest amount to what my professor found got a candy bar.
My professor found, in just three minutes of a speech, that Trump matched 65 different phrases/sentences to that of Hitler’s translation.
65 nearly identical phrases used in his speeches. Take a moment to think about that.
Like, according to Trump’s first wife Ivana he kept a book of Hitler’s speeches in his nightstand and would read it periodically… so the overlap is not at all surprising given his obsession with Hitler’s propaganda.
– One of the biggest fears writers face is burnout, or “writer’s block”. However, there’s always a way to look at the positives in a situation. Please take the following to heart: Not actively creating is okay, as long as you continue to your goals in another way.
Do not ever beat yourself up over not having the momentum to keep creating actively, 24/7. You need days where you relax and research and find inspiration. It’s not laziness. It’s an important part of the creative process. There’s a fabulous visual by emcheeseman on Twitter that was made for artists and explains this really well.
The Three Stages Of The Creativity Cycle
There are three stages to the creativity cycle; Action, The Middle, and Recovery.
The Middle Ground
If you’re coming down from the action stage, you’re not quite burnt out, but you’re also not as full of creative energy as you might have been last week. Your creations aren’t popping out as quickly and you’re finding that you take more breaks, do less in one sitting, and would rather take it slow and figure out some world building for upcoming scenes or write some experimental blurbs, rather than keep writing at full speed.
Or, if you’re coming out of the recovery stage, you’re not at 100% yet, but you have the motivation to do something, such as the activities I used as examples above.
During The Action Stage
You’re actively creating. You’re, how one would say, on a roll. Your visions and ideas are coming to life and you’re using all of your energy to create, rather than research or recharge. You should be using the momentum you’ve built up in the middle ground to write, and write a lot.
The Recovery Stage
You have had enough of writing for hours and hours at a time and you need some rest. Your brain is tired and you’re finding it more difficult to get excited about your project. It’s time to let yourself breathe. Give yourself time to do absolutely nothing, distance yourself from your project, and take in some material to help you get inspired again.
You need to input content into your head. Read, watch tv shows, watch movies, go out in the world, try new things, have new experiences, visit new places, etc. This is super important to this stage. If you don’t consume other work or things that will help you generate ideas once you have the energy again, you will not bounce back to the high energy production phase you hope to be on again.
So What?
Just remember that creativity, no matter what art form you practice, is a cycle that you can’t stop in one place. Nobody can always be in a place where they can happily create every single day without faltering. You’re human, you’re an artist, and you need to accept that there are multiple ways you can work toward your goal, even when you’re “burnt out”. It’s all part of the process.

Adventure Time is one of the most unique shows that ever came out alongside with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Regular Show. Being the show that saved Cartoon Network when it was in the dark ages back in the early 2010s. This show is so brilliant for its creativity and writing. This show had it all, for example…
1) Finn growing up in every season from being immature twelve years old
to a mature seventeen years old.
Making us, the fans to relate to him more as we grow old with him and develops as the show passes on to each season.
2) It’s the combination of comedic by random humor
With plot that pretty much made everyone love the show for like Simon Petrikov/Ice King story and his interaction Marceline
3) It’s great setting that made the show most interesting, telling what might Finn and Jake will find and disover as they travel the land of Ooo
It’s also set on on post apocalyptic Earth
4) It divines into mature themes such as
Love
Lost
Abandonment
and the list keeps going on of how much they’ve shown
4) The characters developing to the show like Marceline and Princess Bubblegum were always neutral towards each other but they patch things up in season 7. Started to hang out more
5) The Songs
Now that I’ve rewatched the show and I can say that this was one of the best cartoons shows that I’ve ever watched and It’s hard to see it go. Without it, we won’t be seeing cartoon shows such as Star vs The Forces of Wall, Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, OK KO Lets Be Heroes and Gravity Falls. This show was a huge part of my childhood from my late elementary years to college. Thank you AT Crew, you guys did one hell of a job making this mathematical show for characters and story you’ve provided for eight years. The fun will never end, it’s always an adventure time!
Tuesday Tips — Head Space — As an audience, our eyes are mostly tracking the head (and eyes) of the main characters on screen. As filmmakers, it would be a great disservice to not take that info into consideration. For clarity, try to make space around the head of characters on-screens. Too much visual noise around the face interferes with the message, unless that’s the point you’re trying to make make. Also, try your best to maintain the same head screen position when cutting to a new shot with the same characters, whatever type of shot it is.
