It’s actually a lot easier than you think. I’m a lazy person very lazy so I used this super easy way to do it. I’m going to apologise because I didn’t save the individual layers and basically just used certain parts from the final design to make this tutorial.
Step 1: I planned the layout. Since lions have such majestic manes (it’s one of the things they’re known for after all!) I thought: hair = waves. But, since I wanted to keep this rather simple, I figured a lazy, mirrored ‘s’ shape would be aesthetically pleasing (and it’s used on most face card designs).
Step 2: I drew the lion’s head. Originally they were just black lines on white, but again, I didn’t save the layers. Anyway, since I can picture what it’ll look like flipped both horizontally and vertically, I kept the mane short in the back and longer in the front (this could apply to just about anything you choose to draw for a face card). Just copy (ctrl + c) and paste (ctrl + v) to get an exact replica of what you’ve drawn.
Step 3: Flip the copied lion bust horizontally and vertically, and translate it (move it) on the page so that it lines up with the original bust. As you can see, when put together, the busts form that lazy ‘s’ shape.
Step 4: See that empty spot in the middle? Fill it in with some more strands of lovely mane hair, so that they connect nicely.
Step 5: Add the finishing touches!
Hope this really quick, last-second tutorial helps!
